Know Your Audience

One of the first principles that one learns in Marketing is the importance of knowing who your target audience is.

In the blogging world, there are lots of widgets that bloggers can use to attain such information. It is truly fascinating to see the sheer amount of details that we can get with a small fee. 

For instance, the invisible tracker that I use on my blog shows up lots of interesting snippets of information on every visitor, like the example I show here. 

If one is keen, you can scroll through details like the date/time a visitor enters the site to the page/s he looks at, the time spent per page, which comments he reads/writes, exit pages, his location, referrer etc...

Of course, this is only the tip of the iceberg. There is a lot more offered by this and other widgets that one can use to learn about your target audience. 

The fact is - no one is truly anonymous with today's technology. All it takes is a little sleuth work and some motivation. :) 

Thanks to this widget, I recently found out that a friend's sister is reading this blog daily; a few ex-colleagues have found this blog; a friend I lost touch with chanced upon this blog; some girlfriends' spouses are reading this blog almost daily ... and the list just goes on...
