Growth vs Fixed Mindset

Growth Mindset

Embraces challenges
Learns from criticism
Inspired by others' success
Persists in the face of setbacks
Sees effort as necessary
Open to new things & experiences
Welcomes other opinions
Believes that one's abilities can keep growing

Fixed Mindset

Avoids challenges
Ignores negative feedback
Threatens by others' success
Gives up easily
See effort as futile
Afraid of changes
Insists on own opinions
Believes that one's abilities are predestined

What do we do on a daily basis to encourage a Growth Mindset in ourselves and our kids?

Food for thought.

Interesting! Never heard of this concept before though I have been trying my best to practice. Since my child was 2 yrs, I have signed him up for many different classes and experiences. I hoped to encourage him to try new things and not be afraid of challenges. He enjoys new classes, but also I think he gives up too easily. Not easy to encourage him.

Hi Annoymous

Thanks for sharing. It is common for kids to feel discouraged at times, especially when they face challenges. More often than not, self-motivation does not just 'happen' naturally to most kids. For some kids, it takes more than a few words of encouragement. But for all phases of development and skill acquisition, there is a natural path that everyone has to go through and somewhere along the path, there will be resistance and difficulties. With the appropriate encouragement and reinforcement, kids will overcome the resistance and learn not to give up so easily in future. Will write of this in a blog post.
