Chip Chats in Mandarin

Another spontaneous story in Mandarin from Chip. I was working on my laptop when he started muttering to himself. So got him to repeat the first two lines.

I haven't bothered to correct his sentence structures when he created them (except for one sentence, I think the rest are pretty good for a 4 y.o). But I read them back to him after he finished with his story-telling and told him how to improve them.

(One day, a horse was in his room reading)
(Suddenly, a fire broke out)
(His book was on fire)
(Then, it became a pig)
(The pig went to the river)
(It saw a fish)
(The fish swam around)
(The pig saw a dragon)
(The pig was scared, but it was very clever)
(The pig ran very fast, it jumped into the dragon's ear)
(The pig used its mouth to make a lot of noise)
(The dragon was scared, it flew around)

It is so rewarding to watch how he interacts with my mum these days.

Before, it was only M who could speak Mandarin to her whenever she came over. While Chip could understand her, he could barely have a proper conversation with her. It was only a smattering of phrases accompanied by lots of gestures.

Over the Mother's Day weekend, I noticed his improved ability to converse with her. He asked her questions and even shared his thoughts and opinions with her. The boys watched some Channel 8 and U programmes (all Chinese programmes) together and they even commented on what they saw with her.

Chip was overheard saying ...

(I don't like the black man)
(I'm not afraid of him, but I don't like him)
(Why is he so bad)

(There are so many pretty flowers here)
(So many butterflies flying about)
(You want to go to the garden with me)

(I like to go to the beach the most)
(I can sleep on the beach and play sand)
(Ah Ma, do you like to play at the beach too)

I was grinning from ear to ear when I heard his little chats with Ah Ma. How encouraging!
