Our Daily Conversations

I do not remember my boys bugging me to have conversations with them everyday when they were 5 years old, or ever for that matter.

But the Dolly would ask me multiple times a day to have conversations with her. Whether we are in the car, walking somewhere, over a meal and even during a shower when I am shampooing her hair! Haha....

Sometimes our conversations will begin with a question of hers.

Questions such as "Can a woman marry another woman?" or "What are the different ways that people can get money?" or "How do we change a star into a hexagon?" etc...

Sometimes, she just wants me to talk to her about anything I like.

Even though I am smiling at this instant as I am typing, thinking how sweet my baby girl is to want to spend so much time conversing with me, I must admit there are many times in a week when I feel more annoyed and impatient than I should be with her requests. This is especially so when she makes repeated requests at the most inconvenient times.

But I have to keep reminding myself that the days are long, but the years are short. There will come a time when I will not be the person she wants to spend so much time talking to anymore.

So I must cherish while it lasts.

Hi Shirley,

How do u answer dolly's question on same sex marriage then? I've been thinking how to answer that myself, so wondering if I should just stop brushing this sensitive topic away.

Have a good weekend!

Hi Siew Siew, I explained that usually a woman and man would marry and have kids of their own. She understands the concept of mating to reproduce as we have discussed this before. So she worked out quickly that even if same sex marriage was possible, it would mean they could not have kids of their own. Then we discussed the possibility of adoption in such cases. I also explained that same-sex marriage is still not acceptable to most people and in many countries and cultures, people of same gender will not be able to get married even if they want to.

Hi Shirley,

Thanks for taking time to reply. I'm really amazed that she is able to comprehend all these. I hope I can have the same level of maturity when I speak to mine.

Have a good day!

Siew Siew, you are welcome! I assume you are referring to En Tong and not your boy? My daughter can understand as I always discuss a wide range of topics with all kids and students, so they can follow the discussions and issues very well. Cultures and countries are more difficult and abstract concepts but even kids in my K2 classes appreciate and understand them now after our discussions.

Actually both, I always discuss with the 2 of them but for some topics I believe entomb will grasp better. I'm not sure if she is maturing too fast or I'm too slow, I try to steer clear from relationships (BGR) topics.
